Nice to know in some odd way that Blacks aren't the only ones that are color struck.
It is a strange world Tony, us western world whites all spend a fortune travelling towards the equator in search of a suntan so we can have dark skin and look healthy.

For real. You know the media and history has white washed many for them to hate their own skin. So many books, articles and discussions on this but it is highly emphasized in the black community than elsewhere. Thanks for reading as always, Tony!

Karlos - glad you said it because this is something that I do not get. People walk up to me (those who are of a lighter color) and ask me why do I even try to suntan because they want to be dark like me. But then, I want to suntan too.
Oprah said on her show once that she has SPF 5000 because of her color. Made me proud to know she appreciates her brown skin too! This was a show she had on last year with Dr Oz and other health people discussing the benefits of using suntan lotion. By the way, happy belated birthday, karlos! A little birdie told me!
The colour thing makes me laugh and cry, I was out with some college friends a few years ago - to paint the picture : i am white, dafunk is 'mid-tone' because of her indian ancestry and the other friend was Scott, pure black and proud of it. We all have English written on our passports, this is where we were born and raised.

Whilst we were out my friends were referred to as 'foreigners' and told to 'go back home' . Scott was called a 'nigger' and dafunk was called a 'paki' and a 'nigger' all in the space of about an hour........ makes you laugh, makes you cry.
p.s - i don't use sun factor protection, i use Hawaiian Tropic which is like cooking oil really, keeps the skin moist and lets the sun rays do their thing.

Ignorance is so rampant throughout the world it makes me wonder about the state of the future. However, when I met great people like yourself, Karlos, I know that there is hope! You know I received comments like the ones you received but that when I was in Africa from Africans! They thought I was from Ethiopia but when I opened my mouth, they knew I was from America. It was wild.

By the way, my mother is from Daytona Beach, Florida, where the founder of Hawaiian Tropic resides. Rice has a HUGE home there. I saw it while riding as a passenger in the car my mother was driving.

I paid for 1% of that house....
