In May 2008, I had the pleasure of participating with Lisa Price the founder and CEO of Carol's Daughter hair products in her first webcast on the internet.
On Tuesday, I went to my dermatologist and confirmed that I DO NOT HAVE ALOPECIA. I was very concerned as to if this was happening again because my hair dresser in New York said I had alopecia spots again (bald spots). A year ago I was diagnosed by a dermatologist as having it and fortunately I stopped using chemicals to prevent further breakage. Fortunately when I returned to the dermatologist again to see about alopecia recurring, I was informed that I do not have it. But, my dermatologist said something was not right with my hair because there were different hair textures.
I was under the impression for the past year that I did not have any chemicals in my hair because another hair dresser (in New York) had ruined my hair with chemicals and heat. I specifically went to this hair dresser for the past year to reverse this problem. Now, I have been informed that when she was "deep conditioning" my hair that she was perming it.
Today, I had to cut out ALL the perm in my hair which was a very short hair cut for me. My hair has never been this short. I was getting my hair hot combed but this lady was hot combing in addition to whatever was in my hair to make it straight. This is what you call over processing and stressing your hair out. It was her hands that were doing it and not mine.
I went to my hair dresser here in DC who has been doing my hair all my life and he confirmed that the hair dresser in NYC was putting CHEMICALS in my hair. I told him to cut ALL the chemicals out of my hair today. No wonder my hair was shedding and not feeling right!
I honestly cannot believe why this hair dresser in NYC would fool me like this. However, my hair dresser in DC said that unfortunately some stylists do this (perm) when you say do not perm. The hair stylist supposedly gets away with this when they say they are deep conditioning your hair.
From this incident I have now learned to ALWAYS look at what the stylist puts in my hair as they are about to do it. But, at this point I am never returning to the hair dresser in NYC.
Now, I have lost trust in all hair dressers except for this one man in DC who has known me and my hair all my life. I will be traveling home to DC to get my hair done because there is absolutely no one in New York I trust to touch my hair at this point.
Thanks for letting me share this unfortunate situation. Not only am I disturbed but I realize now how some of these stylists get over on their clients. I do have a legal case against the hair dresser but it is not worth it. To go through a law suit and to prove this will take awhile and by that time I know my hair will grow out at least a couple inches without this perm in my hair. If I would sue, it would be for fraud, negligence, recklessness and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Not to sure what else I could sue for but this is how I would approach the case if I wanted to go through with a lawsuit.
Here is the article from Folio magazine: Glamour Editor to Address Ex-Staffer's Racial Remark
Interesting to see Mariah Carey on the cover of this issue of Glamour magazine and Queen Latifah was on a recent cover too.
Hmmm....
All I know is that I was highly offended by the remarks made because I have had to change my hair style to accommodate employers in fear of them saying something. I used to wear my hair in twists, but then I put that perm in my hair and recently I started showing signs of alopeica and then all my hair just came out. No perm/relaxer or creamy crack for me!
One of my neighbors swears that my hair is not mine even when it was longer. She even had the NERVE to put her hand in my hair. She did it so quickly that I could not stop her.
Can you believe that? She is older but that was totally unacceptable and I let her know that. She apologized but she could not believe it. She kept on saying, "your hair cannot be that thick!"
You can check my flickr pictures to see what she was yabbing about. Click here Driving through DC for the shorter hair!
This blog entry[Glamour "Racist" Ashley Baker Calls Us Sets Nappy Hair Story Straight] was brought to my attention 2 hours after posting this entry. Still, I know many people have issues with the natural hair. If I see one more bad weave job, I think I am going to scream!
