Did you know that people have been teaching and preaching to our young people for a long time? The problem is that the mainstream media has not picked up on this. Why? I honestly do not know.
Though I am not 100% percent sure if this is Hill Harper's voice narrating the video, CSI: New York's Hill Harper is a young African American man who is a perfect example of a young black man who is not the stereotypical African American. Hill Harper has not only a high school diploma but a BA from Brown University and a law and masters degree in public administration both from Harvard University. Though I am not to sure if Hill practiced law, he has the philosophy of using his education to help educate others on always having a back up plan in case something happens with your chosen field. Smart! This philosophy was shared with me by a personal friend who was a student at Harvard Law School (1996 to 1999). She attended a seminar where alumni of Harvard University (Hill Harper and others were there) visited their alma mater to inspire the current students.
When Hill Harper was promoting his book, Letters to a Young Brother, I took the liberty of pre-ordering 10 copies of the book. [Thank you to Eurweb.com for making me aware of this!] Though I did not have time to go to any of Hill Harper's book signings, I handed out a book anytime I saw a young teenager in my neighborhood who needed encouragement from a male voice. All the young men I gave the book to were very receptive and elated that someone had written a book for them to embrace and learn some life lessons from.
Did you know that Hill Harper was classmates with Barack Obama at Harvard University?
Did you know that both Hill Harper's parents were medical doctors?
On a personal note, Hill Harper's mother and my mother attended Talledega College at the same time; however, Hill's mother was a senior when my mother was a freshman. My mother shared with me that Hill's mother was very kind and influenced my mother to join the sorority that she pledged in school. My mother was only 15 when she attended college, and she found Hill's mother to be receptive and a sister figure although my Mom was the youngest student on campus at the time. Though they have not been in touch since the 1950s, Hill Harper's mother influenced my mother in a positive way. Thank you, Dr. Marilyn Hill Harper!
