If you have not seen spoken word artist Taalam Acey, I highly recommend that you check his calendar and make it a MUST to see him perform.
Last week, I had the pleasure of seeing him in New York City with a group of amazing poets he hand picked to be a part of a magical night at the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City.
Check out more about Taalam Acey here on his official website here:

If I could work in any aspect of the Grammy Awards, then I would like an opportunity to VOTE in the Grammy Awards where I could nominate and vote for the musicians that I support. I am trying to SAVE the art and recognize those musicians who I feel are not given that recognition HINT HINT - Amel Larrieux, Maxwell, Les Nubians, E.S. Posthumus, Stuart Cottonbelly Matthewman, Paul Sequence Ferguson, Eddie Benitez, Taalam Acey, Gaelle, Wendy and Lisa, Tyka Nelson, K'naan, Prince and many others who I adore. I know some of my favorites have been nominated but I want to be able to vote for them. With all the artists I support, I would love to have a vote and voice there. That means more to me than anything. xoxo

Empowerment from so many individuals especially Taalam Acey and Hill Harper.
I always appreciate Taalam Acey's spirit for he is trying to make a difference like so many young African American men who may not be given the publicity of his plight.
Don't forget to continue to appreciate and nurture your local heroes in your community who may be of service in a variety of ways.
Today, I received a personal message from Taalam Acey reminding me that he will be in New York City on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at The Bowery Poetry Club in New York City.
So people if you are in the New York City area and you want to be empowered by Taalam's verses please check him out!!

Thank you for the love as always, Taalam!
So this morning I am checking out my websites as usual and guess who wrote me a note? AMEL LARRIEUX.
AMEL AMEL AMEL
Okay, did I say AMEL?
Beyond cheesing while staring at her icon in my inbox,
I almost fell out my chair! I said to myself, "are u for real?" I winced my eyes a couple of times and then I said I gotta read the note. As I was reading it, I was playing Amel Larrieux's new album, Lovely Standards. The song I was listening to was I Like the Sunrise which was a song written by Nina Simone. Amel did a superb job in covering it. Ms. Simone would be proud!
Bless you Amel! I left a blog post for you on myspace but if others are curious to what I said I dedicated this song here to her: Heaven by BeBe and CeCe Winans. Continue to keep a spiritual connection in your life! I can TESTIFY.
Actually, I dedicated the song also to Taalam Acey and to Maxwell.
Now be good, share the joy between you three and spread the vibe through living a full filling life! I love y'all like the air I breathe for your art truly touches me.
Man, I feel not worthy for your interaction with me because I don't want y'all (I'm Southern so that is why I talk with a southern DRAWL - well, that is for you to find out!) to think I am crazy with all my blogs about you but it is all done in sincerity in spreading the word. The positive word of your work. I cannot keep it a secret of how powerful and re-affirming your work is to the world. My bond to you is all through verse and melody. I am EXTREMELY grateful for the extension of your kindness towards me and know I will always continue to praise you and give you STRENGTH as long as I can come up for air (as Amel sings!).
Amel, Maxwell and Talaam Acey have been given praises in my group - Last.fm's positive flow. You have to be my friend on last.fm to get in! [Me on last.fm] I am just ONE person who is an appreciator and fan of their gifts so I do my best! Remember it takes a team to spread a positive flow. Let's continue to be loving, kind and sincere to one another. And, if you are a meanie then I will continue to pray for you.

REMEMBER IT IS ABOUT THE ART/MUSIC! There is a spiritual connection there for me. And, you need to read up on what I have been trying to express: Please check out this book - This is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession by Daniel J. Levitin.
I am obsessed with art for it continues to feed me. I am high off of music and life. What more may I ask for? For God to continue to guide and bless me. If you have not listened to Joel Osteen's recent sermon please listen to Sermon #381 - We Can Pray Bold Prayers.
If you listen to it then you will understand where I stand in my faith. I pray bold prayers which are sincere. I do not ask for much but for people to be respectful of one another, a roof over my head and food to keep me alive until he calls me home. I honestly am that simple but I know some people are not.
Everyday, every hour and every minute I thank God for my blessings. You never know how long you will be on this Earth, and I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be alive for 34 years.

How did I get so special? But then I am a fan! ;P He even autographed it. I was like, Jesus, how does he find the TIME?!
THANKIE, TAALAM. Now sit your hyper bootay down and relax. But, I am just as hyper!
It is the reality you have in the rush of creating and enjoying ART!
Recent Blog Entry by Taalam Acey that I found extremely informative:
His Recipe for Success on the Internet
Do you EVER get SNAIL mail that is autographed to you from some one you adore?
Well, today, I checked my mailbox and was surprised to find this personalized post card from spoken word artist Taalam Acey. I have his CD, Market for Change (he autographed that one too!) which I adore.
Recently, he had mentioned on his web page that he was re-printing a popular book that he published a few years ago which is a book of poetry entitled, Eyes Free.
Well, guess what? I ordered it for I am estatic to have his written word in my hands in addition to having his CD.
Spoken word definitely is one of my guilty pleasures and I am honored to have Taalam Acey welcome me into his cyberspace family.

Though I love the independent musicians, I cannot order from you anymore unless you have music being sold through CDbaby or an accredited vehicle such as amazon.com, emusic.com. I know that it is expensive sometimes to use these platforms, but my wallet cannot take the shams anymore. Further, I refuse to order anything through cafepress.com because they are still selling items that say "nappy headed hoe." I find that offensive.
Take a look for yourself:

Last year, I ordered a CD from a young man and STILL I have not received it. I only ordered it from the individual because he claimed to be a Morehouse graduate. When I investigated, I realized that he was not a graduate but only attended the school for a short time. This made me question his credibility. He eventually confided in me and told me the truth. Now, it is almost February 2008 and the CD has still not come out. The CD has not been completed nor has it been mailed out to buyers. Further, when I ordered the CD, it was supposed to come out in July when I pre-ordered it in June 2007. I should have canceled the order when it was not received but now I know not to pre-order anymore CDs from the artist directly.
I will not reveal this artist name because he has supporters but I am not taking this disrespect anymore. I try and help when I can but you have to come to me correct.
The one independent artist who truly came to me correct was Taalam Acey. Within four days, I received the CD that I ordered and to my surprise it was 2 CDs. Further, his inscription to me was very sincere. He endeared himself to me and he has my support. (also Walkin Contradiction quickly sent his CD to me too!)
Other musicians that I have supported know that I have their back because without them asking, I have written up favorable reviews of their work on the internet. However, I do have some beef with one musician who gave me a shady autograph. Just sign your name and don't say "thank you for the purchases" when I have gone out my own way writing reviews for you in other venues. I am very tempted to take down all the reviews but I am not.
This artist did not ask me to write the reviews because it came straight from the heart. However, this particular artist is aware of ALL the reviews I did for them. That little "thank you for the purchases" autograph kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Just sign your name. It makes me tempted to sell all his stuff on ebay, half.com or amazon.com. But, I think I may just throw it all in the Hudson river and be done. See how this gets personal so just sign your name and don't be saying "thank you for the purchases" when a fan has told you and showed you all the support they have given you.
However, the few bad seeds out here are making it extremely hard for people like myself who are trying to help support you. This time no more.
There are particular artists who know I have their back and I do, whereas others please don't even go there with me. I am not ordering your CD.
Listen to this and understand where I am coming from:
